A new company called the Iron Yard will soon call half of the first floor home. It is a private school that promises to teach students computer web coding in 12-weeks. Iron Yard Instructor David Rogers said, "You're training for a job. You're training to be a front-end engineer in an entry-level position." The Iron Yard's been around for 4 years and is already in five other cities. The company says it chose Orlando in part because of the city's focus on growing a digital main street.
“It’s good to see more stuff coming out of Orlando,” said Willa Riggins, president of FamiLab, about Factur. “It sounds like they will be a little more structured, which serves a slightly different market. [Factur] seems like they do more prototyping.”
They’ve “pivoted,” exchanging one set of advantages for a different set. Let me explain. The Walker has long been seen as an important place for contemporary art. In my past few years trying to create community, I have had to make a lot of decisions, whether conscious or not, about my environment. By environment I mean not only the room I'm sitting in, or the street I'm on, or the neighborhood, or even just the state of the US. I'm also talking about the people around me, individual beings, their companies, organizations, movements and activities. Then there are the memes, which seem to travel on air currents, over IP tubes, or via word of mouth at varying speeds.
