OP-1 - Introduction - Teenage Engineering

8 built-in synthesizer engines, multiple effects and LFO’s. And some really unique sequencers ready to explore. Connect it to your computer and control your DAW with the common play, stop, rec, forward and rewind. Use the 4 rotary encoders and 8 x 2 dedicated quick keys for fast selections. Record everything on the built in 4-track tape. Match the tape speed to the sequencer clock for some really nice overdubbing with changing pitch. Change tapespeed while recording, or even record backwards in realtime.

Why we need Open, Hackable Materials now – An Interview with Catarina Mota « Meedabyte

She is, no doubt, amongst the most eminent representatives of the Hacking movement. To me, it’s extremely impressive though how one of the leaders of this revolution is coming right from outside the technological world and actually has a communication sciences and film college background.

Of Bears, Bats, and Bees: Making Sense of the Internet of Things | Blog | design mind

Link
http://designmind.frogdesign.com/blog/of-bears-bats-and-bees-making-sense-of-th…
Bats are what prompted me to write my “Mobile Apps Must Die ” blog post as their app-for-every-bat approach just isn’t sustainable. As we get more and more bats in the world, the user overhead of app maintenance is going to break down. This is the primary difference between bears and bats: bears carry their interaction within them as they can afford big screens and pointing devices.

Modular Robotics | Cubelets

Link
http://www.modrobotics.com/
Cubelets are magnetic blocks that can be snapped together to make an endless variety of robots with no programming and no wires. You can build robots that drive around on a tabletop, respond to light, sound, and temperature, and have surprisingly lifelike behavior. But instead of programming that behavior, you snap the cubelets together and watch the behavior emerge like with a flock of birds or a swarm of bees. Each cubelet in the kit has different equipment on board and a different default behavior. There are Sense Blocks that act like our eyes and ears, Action blocks, and Think blocks.

In Silicon Valley, Hardware Is Hot Again - Businessweek

It’s become much less painful to build gadgets, even for the little guy. Marc Barros, a co-founder of camera maker Contour, says retailers like Best Buy (BBY) might eat up $70 on a $200 device. In the age of social media and e-commerce, he can sell directly to consumers. If professional investors won’t risk their money on a hardware startup, entrepreneurs can turn to Kickstarter or another crowdfunding site and walk away with millions.

Arduino Leonardo

Link
http://blog.makezine.com/2012/06/26/new-in-the-maker-shed-arduino-leonardo/
why is the Leonardo different? Because it uses the ATmega32u4. This processor has built in USB communication which eliminates the need for a secondary USB to serial converter. The ATmega32u4 creates a virtual (CDC) COM port on your computer every time it runs its bootloader. Since it’s virtual, it can also behave like an HID (Human Interface Device) meaning the Leonardo can “act” like a keyboard or mouse, opening it up to a whole new range of projects. This processor also has additional I/O capabilities, allowing pins 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12 to be used as analog inputs (12 total vs.

After all the testing and analysis, one system stood head and shoulders above the others: the ZoneFlex system from Ruckus Wireless. I remember in particular one of the graphs comparing the performance of the various systems under heavy load. The other systems showed a jumble of jagged lines representing drop-outs, while Ruckus sailed smoothly through with none.

Listen - Is Raspberry Pi a low-cost computer breakthrough? | New Hampshire Public Radio

Link
http://www.nhpr.org/post/raspberry-pi-low-cost-computer-breakthrough
As zealous consumers know, the sleek look and user-friendly feel of Apple’s high-end gadgets are big part of their sticker price. One man is rethinking form and function with a tiny, inexpensive, bare-bones computer called the Raspberry Pi …which he hopes will bring the power of programming to even the poorest corners of the globe. Eben Upton is the creator of the miniature machine – he’s also founder of the Raspberry Pi foundation.
