No Longer Wasteland, Orlando's Cultural Scene Grows Up - ABC News

Link
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/longer-wasteland-orlandos-cultural-scene…
Orlando always has had a strong theater scene, thanks to the many actors who work at theme parks, and also several acclaimed annual festivals, such as the Bach Festival of Winter Park and a fringe theater festival. But the construction of the Dr. Phillips Center, financed partially with taxes on tourists, gives the city a world-class venue for local performing arts groups and national touring acts.

From Paris, With Smell

Link
http://www.ediblegeography.com/from-paris-with-smell/
In studies, the descriptors used on menus or food labels have been shown to exert a huge influence on what flavours consumers subsequently report experiencing. It’s easily to imagine a similar effect by which an oSnapper will perceive croissants as more buttery and toast-like, and less floury, say, or sweet, than someone who is not trying to summarise the aroma using Vapor Communications’ limited palette. It’s even possible that the oSnap app might even induce a new synaesthesia, in which chocolate is associated with purple and onions “taste” turquoise.

The Pig, or Václav Havel's Hunt for a Pig by Edward Einhorn — Kickstarter

Link
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/492977639/the-pig-or-vaclav-havels-hunt-fo…
The play, based on a dialogue that Havel wrote in 1987, is a shaggy-dog tale about his attempt to put together a zabíjačka (a traditional Czech pig roast) for his dissident friends, framed as an interview with a clueless American journalist. As he tells the comic tale, he provides veiled commentary on everyday life under Communism, disguising it so that it can slip past the ever-present censors. Acclaimed Czech director Vladimír Morávek rediscovered the piece and, together with Havel, combined it with sections from Smetana's operetta, The Bartered Bride.

Luxury Farming Equipment: If You Sell It, They Will Come - Modern Farmer

Link
http://modernfarmer.com/2013/06/yuppie-farming-equipment/
The growing popularity of urban farming and gardening has been great not only for aspiring agricultural enthusiasts, but also for the catalogs that cater to them. While there has been an outcropping, so to speak, of useful, well-made and reasonably priced tools and equipment, there has been an additional proliferation of items that are, well, not exactly essential to one’s farming and gardening needs.

Six Rules for Dining Out - Tyler Cowen - The Atlantic

If you are going to visit such restaurants, go during their first few months of operation. The famous chef, or some competent delegate, will be on hand early in the history of the restaurant to make sure it gets good reviews from sophisticated food critics and smart food bloggers; because the chef is famous, these reviews will appear quickly. Then everyone will want to go there, and the place will become a major social scene. The laughing and the smiling will set in. Beware! That’s when you need to stop going.
