We need a stronger creative culture in the Software Industry — Medium

Link
https://medium.com/@erikaheidi/we-need-a-stronger-creative-culture-in-the-softw…
I believe the future of programming can only be lead by coders with genuine artistic spirits — they won’t be afraid of failing, and this is essential for coming up with really good ideas. The creative programmers will drive software engineering towards new edges, while also working hard to make programming more accessible. We will have more hobbyists — people who don’t code for money, and don’t want to pursue a career in software engineering, they just want to use programming as a tool.

Nathan Selikoff — Artists & Algorists

Link
http://artistsandalgorists.com/nathan-selikoff/
what really drew me to Selikoff as an artist is his commitment to interaction that does not just employ a digital medium. His portfolio of work also includes some very physical and analogue interactions that made me very curious as to how he viewed his practice. I asked the Orlando based artist about real time interactions, how he got into programming and creating applications for the Leap Motion.

Art Hack Day | Packt

Link
https://www.packtpub.com/books/content/art-hack-day
an event for hackers whose medium is art and artists whose medium is tech. A typical Art Hack Day event brings together 60 artist-hackers and hacker-artists to collaborate on new works in a hackathon-style sprint of 48 hours leading up to a public exhibition and party. The artworks often demonstrate the expressive power of new technology, radical collaboration in art or a critical look at how technology affects society. The technology used is typically open, and sharing source code online is encouraged.

The Borscht Corp.

Link
http://borschtcorp.com/#about
an open-source collaborative dedicated to telling Miami stories. Through commission grants, film production, web projects, myth-making, and idiosyncratic events (including the biannual Borscht Film Festival), we redefine the stereotypically insipid depiction of our city in the mainstream media. Founded by members of the generation that came of age with the infant metropolis itself, Borscht hopes to articulate the voices of the New Miami. We believe in interdisciplinary collaboration. We believe in regional filmmaking. We believe in Miami.

I FEEL AWFUL ALL OF THE TIME

Link
http://bleedingpalm.com/
Bleeding Palm, alternately spelled Bl33d1ng P@Lm, is a Miami based mystic organization founded by Ronnie Rivera at some point between July 2010 and August 2010, with its origins being traceable to the Kyrgyzstan Revolution of 2010. It operates as a network comprising both a stateless art collective and radical wing of the church of the Night Mother. The identities of the members of the collective are generally undisclosed, the only confirmed member is Christina Felisgrau (First Blood of Sithus and keeper of The Blade of Woe) who is believed to be second in command.

Learning To Be Who We Are | Thought Economics

Link
http://thoughteconomics.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/learning-to-be-who-we-are.html
Whenever people try to create divisive standards or curricula, it quickly becomes a very heated discussion. I remember when the national curriculum was introduced in the UK, there was a lot of debate not about whether Shakespeare should be included; but which play. Education is a high-stakes cultural process, and this is something we have to recognise given how important cultural identity is in a precarious world; indeed many of the major conflicts that continue to plague humanity have cultural origins rather than economic.

Seeing is Believing: The State of Virtual Reality | The Verge

Link
http://www.theverge.com/a/virtual-reality/intro
"In the ’80s, I had maybe an outright mystical approach to it. For me, the very most important thing about VR was that when you were in it, you’d feel your own existence in the sense that if all the sensory input is artificial, then what’s floating there, that’s your consciousness. So to me, it was sort of proof that subjectivity is real; that consciousness is real, that it’s not just a construct that we put on things. Just to notice that you really exist, to me was the very, very core of it.

Night in the Woods

Link
http://www.nightinthewoods.com/
Night In The Woods is an adventure game heavily focused on story, characters and exploration, with some platforming to get around town. Mae's a cat so the roofs and ledges and powerlines are all her playground, and she's not the only one up there by a long shot. You'll also be doing various activities and interacting with the world in different ways, getting to know the townspeople, hanging out with friends, exploring Possum Springs inside and out, and venturing into the surrounding areas.

Seaman and his shop play an important function in the lives of many people in and around Oviedo. For someone such as Patti Landis, who recently moved from Ohio and is at the gallery on almost a daily basis, it is much more than a place to observe original art. "I had to get here and see what in the world was going on when I passed by this pink building," Landis said. "Being new down here, it's kind of hard to get in a clique and meet new people. After I started [coming to the studio], it's hard to get away.
